Sometimes it can be hard for a person who does not drink alcohol to feel like they can be a part of their friends’ social lives. A lot of the social aspects in the United States of America involve drinking and gathering in places where the idea is to consume alcohol and socialize. What would a Superbowl party be without chips, dips, and a whole lot of cold beer in the fridge? Camping with friends almost always necessitates a cooler of beer to be brought out to the wilderness along with tents, sleeping bags, and hot dog roast sticks.

For wedding receptions, it seems as though it is almost never really a question of whether there will be alcohol available but whether it should be provided for free or for pay, or maybe free for part of the night and available for a fee later on. In short, American culture is a culture in which alcohol and drinking plays a very prevalent part. If you do not drink, you can be left feeling excluded when everyone goes to the bars. But all is not lost. What you can do is encourage your friends to go to bars that offer fun activities. There are some bar games that can be fun even for nondrinkers to partake in. Maybe you will have to pass on the beer pong, however, darts, pool, and shuffleboard are very popular activities that people enjoy doing when they go out. Your friends can play these with beer in hand, and you can have just as much fun with your lime and Coke as they do with their rum and Coke. So don’t be discouraged, just find a place that offers these fun bar games and go have fun with your friends!
